Jane's Walk around Abbey Park
Jane’s Walk is a movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.
Jane’s Walks are organised and led by volunteers around the world. There are many ways to get involved—whether by leading a walk, participating in a walk, or leading the festival in your city.
Led by Simon Middlecote, a local Architect
Let’s get walking!
Jane’s Walk Nottingham led by Simon Middlecote, Architect and resident of Abbey Park, West Bridgford.
The walk picked up on the theme of “How We Dwell” as we walk through this quietly innovative 1970s housing estate.
We considered how housing changed radically in the second half of the 20th Century and yet how some developers and designers kept true to principles of community life, public space, and the creation of opportunities for neighbourliness. We questioned what we can we learn from Abbey Park- from permeable fences to Ladies that Lunge, what is it like to live here?
The walk was free, open to all and followed a fully accessible route on public streets. The walk took around 90 minutes including stops to chat about the things we see and to hear from local contributors.
